Question:

Im getting ceramic braces.?

I‘m getting ceramic braces. Can i get *light* blue brackets seeing as the clear ones stain easily?.Does that mean the WHOLE braces have to be blue, or can they be silver and then blue brackets in front of the teeth? What is it like having ceramic braces?

Answer:

The brackets themselves are either white or clear. They do not come in colors. You are probably talking about the elastic ligatures (o rings) that go around the brackets. You can get them in any color you want! You are correct that the clear ones stain. Especially if you eat curry -- that is the worst (it is the spice Turmeric that is the culprit). I had ceramic braces for 3 years on my top teeth (metal on the bottom). I found that I liked either light blue ligatures or light grey ones. They didn't stain as badly. What is it like having Ceramic braces? Well, it takes a few weeks to get used to the bulky feeling underneath your lips, but after a while it doesn't phase you anymore. Ceramic brackets tend to be a bit larger than metal brackets. But they usually look good and you can barely see them in photos. ask the person making them for you. honestly, i've heard of different types of braces but not ceramic ones. ceramic is made from clay and is always a white/offwhite/yellowish colour. they would need to put a dye in the ceramic before they fired it (hardened it) and it would be costly. are you sure your braces are ceramic? it's a very fragile material!
i think by brackets you might mean ties? your brackets are the ceramic part. they will be clearish white, and will blend nicely with your teeth. you can put whatever color tie you want on them. the tie is what holds the wire on your brackets. the wire is the only silver you will see. it is thin, and not very noticable with ceramic brackets. most people choose ceramic brackets beacause they are less noticeable. choosing colored ties kind of defeats the point. if you would like to use clear ties, here are some tips to help avoid staining. try to stay away from foods with tomato sauce, like pizza and spaghetti. drink dark liquids, like tea or soda, through a straw. don't smoke! common sense will usually tell you whats gonna stain your braces. be careful, because the brackets can stain too. good luck on your journey to a beautiful smile!
