Question:

Is aspen bedding okay for rats?

I usually use Carefresh but someone gave me a huge bag of aspen bedding. Is it okay for my ratties? Have you used it? Thanks.

Answer:

Aspen Bedding is perfect for rats. They like to dig and roll around in the bedding. Make sure you can trust the brand though. Some rodents are allergic to certain types of bedding. If you don't want to take the risk, keep on using Carefresh bedding. Good Luck!
I don't see any problem with it...
Aspen is okay to use. It's ceder and pine that causes problems.
Aspen's ok, unless you have hairless rats. Without the protection of a fur coat, hairless are especially vulnerable to scratches on their skin eye injuries.
Actually aspen shouldn't be used for rats, only carefresh since rats are prone to respiratory infections and the dust that comes with aspen causes this. Once it gets a respiratory infection it is very hard to get rid of so I would stick with the carefresh.
