Question:

Is It Brake Fluid or something else?

My brake petal went straight to the floor. why?

Answer:

60,000 miles is the usual mileage struts begin to loose their compression and rebound ability.
Take it too a different mechanic if you get the same answer - replace the struts.
Your issue is lack of pressurized brake fluid. Check all brake hoses and steel brake lines. Water laden brake fluid rusts brake lines from the inside out and weather and road salt eat them alive from the outside in. You're extremely lucky to get 12 years out of OEM brake lines in states which use salt on the roads in the Winter to dissolve ice.
Sounds like you have lost your brake fluid either from one of your brake cylinders or your master cylinder. look behind each wheel to see if you have a leak. The master will be under the bonnet check to see if there is any fluid left in it. It is also possible a brake pipe may have broken.
Could be a couple of issues. A leak in the brake system. A broken or leaking brake line and you lost brake fluid. Look for puddles of clear liquid where you park the vehicle. Look for wet spots along the brake lines. Air in the brake line. If the fluid level gets too low you can get air in the brake lines. A leaking wheel cylinder or caliper. Look for wet areas inside your tires. Bad seals in the master cylinder. The master cylinder needs to be replaced. Try this simple test. Fill the brake reservoir with the correct type of brake fluid. Pump the brake pedal several times. On the last pump hold firm but not excessive pressure on the brake pedal. Hold this pressure for about 1 minute. If the pedal stays firm you have air in your brake lines. You need to bleed the air from the brake lines. If the pedal slowly goes to the floor, you have a leak. This could be a leaky brake line, wheel cylinder, caliper, or master cylinder. Look for leaks under the vehicle. If you don't find a leak then suspect the master cylinder. No matter what, get this fixed ASAP before you either kill yourself or an innocent victim. Bad brakes are nothing to mess around with.
