Question:

is it safe to have a transmission flushed?

is it good to flush out the transmission. because i heard one you do that it will mess up the transmission even more

Answer:

Myth. On the vast majority of vehicles it is a recommended service. I myself have performed or witnessed probably more than a thousand transmission flushes in my career and never once a problem.
I have heard both, but what my neighbor who is a mechanic says is this. He always recommended changing the transmission fluid at 60,000 miles and having it reverse flushed. However, he did it to his truck, and wound up replacing his transmission. He says it was because of the reverse flushing that he had to do this. It seems that the metal particles that were caught in the recesses of the transmission were sent back into the transmission upon reverse flushing, and those pieces were the culprit. A few tiny metal filings at a time won't do any major damage, but a bunch of metal filings will do a lot of damage. Now, he recommends changing the fluid and filter(s), but not getting the revers flush done. Hope this helps.
its kind of a paradox. you want your transmission flushed to keep it clean and working correctly but if its already old and has problems than flushing it will flush out the crud that may have actually been preventing a complete breakdown. so, the answer is, if your transmission has, say, 60,000 miles or less go ahead and flush it, if more, use your discretion but i would say maybe just wait until you need a new trans for sure? but its up to you and it also depends on the type of car you have. chrysler dodge or plymouth? dont do it. chevy, gm, pontiac, etc.? maybe. Honda, toyota, nissan? probably safe.
