Question:

is the parking brake built into the caliper?

is the e-brake built into the caliper? b/c the associate told me it wasnt and that was another issue outside of the caliper.i need to know how they are connected and if they are connected.

Answer:

The E-brake is built into the caliper Only on cars with 4 wheel disc brakes. most cars have disc up front and drum brakes on the rear. Like all others, we need MAKE_MODEL_YEAR to answer completely
It is possible, but unlikely. Most vehicles that have rear disc brakes, use a small drum-and -shoe arrangement inside the rotor because the drum and shoe brake holds easier and tighter than the caliper.
There are many vehicles that the parking brake is built into the caliper and there are a lot that have a separate drum brake system inside the rotor that is the parking brake only. If you were at a parts store or garage and the mechanic or parts guy told you that your vehicle has a separate parking brake i would trust them. Since you did not bother to list the make and model vehicle you are talking about it is impossible to tell you for sure. Hope I have been helpful.
