Question:

Johnson Outboard alarm?

Hello allI have a 1995 Johnson 50 hp outboard on a 17 foot skiff. The problemabout 3 yrs ago I notice the alarm would chirp once and awhile. Only occurred maybe 1 in every 10 trips though. It was just a real sporadic quick chirp. approximately every 40 to 60 seconds. Over the last 3 yrs it is occurring more and more often. Now it happens at least 1 in ever 2 trips.More infoThere is always plenty of oil in the oil tank. Tell tale is peeing alot. New impeller 2 yrs ago. When the chirp happens there in never a difference in performance (never goes into SLOW mode). Happens at high rpms and low rpms. Please help. any and all ideas appreciated!

Answer:

Wet barrel ones have a valve at each outlet and water is available at all times. The dry barrel ones have only a cap on the outlets and a single valve down at the base which is activated by turning a large screw from the top of the hydrant.
We have a smoke detector on each floor and in the bedrooms, the kind you can't remove the battery from. We have a CO detector on the 2nd floor near the fireplace. We have a flood/water alarm in the furnace room near the water heater and water softener.
