If you put a couple of ice cubes in, your fish will be fine and it should cool it for a whilePut maybe one for every gallon or soOnly a temporary solutionTo keep it at a constant temp if the weather stays bad like that, local pet stores will sometimes put the tanks in styrofoam boxes for insulationIf this becomes a year round problem, you should probably invest in a chiller.
couldn't find my online (internet problems) conversion charts so please bear with me a betta will be just fine in temps between 75 and 86 degrees F you could place a small fan near the aquarium and allow breeze to blow across top of tank this will however increase amount of evaporation
30c is the perfect temp for a bettahe is probably very happy with itthe highest you want to go is 32 for short periods of timeat that point drop in some ice cubes [which they love to play with] if you want to cool your tank you can get a small fan and have it blow horizontally over the top of your tank
86 degrees isn't bad for bettas fish, but it isn't idealTemperatures fluctuations ARE bad for fish thoughIf your tank automatically rises to 86, your going to have to keep it at 86 degrees all the timeIf your tank is normally 78, that's a 8 degree differenceThat's crazy! A change like that would really stress out your fishI would suggest you buy an adjustable heater (if you don't already have one) and set it to 86 degrees so you have a constant temperature.
If the motor overheated normally it should cut out on thermal overload and shut the motor downIf pump has been making a whining noise and sounded like it was straining the bearings were probably on there way outIf it was leaking the front ceramic shaft seal was badYou could repair it vs replaceBut a motor shop will have to quote itIf its an off the shelf motor and under 200 bucks Id just swap out the pump.
