Question:

My brake system is contaminated on my 04 Civic LX auto?

I was wondering if my brake system was contaminated completely what are all the parts that I would need to do the complete overhaul on my brake system I appreciate all the help that I can get thank you

Answer:

just flush the system out and top up wiyh clean brake fluid dont need overhaul for contaminated brake fluid .;ok all the best .
How do you know they were contaminated? If they are all you need to do is flush the brake lines and reservoir with new fluid. Usually water gets in the lines, but the components are not damaged. You just need to flush and bleed the brakes until theres nothing but fresh fluid in the system. If you want to do a complete overhaul you will need new brake calipers and new brake lines. Brake lines tend to snap anytime you try to remove them so just expect them to break when you touch them.
Lets first decide if you have a contaminated condition. Get a clear glass and fill it 3/4 with water, take a teaspoon full of the suspected fluid and put it into the water. Brake fluid is water soluable and will disperse, petroleum products will sit on the surface and this will tell you if it is contaminated. If it desolves, simply flush the system with new fluid. If on the other hand it floats, you have a serious issue and anything that has rubber will have to be replaced. This includes master cylinder, rubber flex lines, caliapers, wheel cylinders, and if your ABS system uses rubber O rings it too will require replacing. For your sake I hope the water test proves in your favor. Good Luck
