Question:

My seedlings keep dying! What am I doing wrong?

I‘ve been starting plants from seed in my room. They‘ll sprout fine and healthy, but sometimes they start to wither and die.

Answer:

Start them off in a small plastic container something like a chinees tub put a few holes in the lid for air flow fill about an inch of soil an place seeds inside spray with watter and place the lid on do not remove the lid till the seeds have grown there secondery leavs ( the leaves that form after the first 2) not even to give it room to grow as your seeds will be come elongated ( seed stalks become verry long without growing seconderry leaves) and die once your seeds have grown enuff then you can repot them
Use a 'soil' substitute that has NO compost or outdoor earth. A mix of peat moss, perlite, vermiculite is good. Any microorganisms in this mix will take off and attach the seedlings. Too much moisture casuses them to come up, wilt and die with a bit of white at the bass, maybe fuzzy looking. This is damping off from too much water. Avoid it by a sulfer powder sprinkled on the surface, or No-Damp chemical or letting the air change once a day. Any droplets inside the clear plastic cover mean too wet. Don't let it be in direct sun with the cover on, that will cook them. Keep the cover on for the first 3 weeks in general, once they come up keep them a litttle cooler. Never then expose to direct sun-light full blast, gradually accustom them to day light. Outdoor light is 10 times stonger than indoor, so be carefull to give only part sun when taking our for the first 10 days.
i'm happy to verify you're consistent. shop up the combat, seedlings are hard to grasp. i think of one component you may ought to kick back on is the watering. make certain you're no longer watering time-honored. maximum vegetation ought to have a dry era. in case you have shallow soil, try another day or each 0.33 day. I even have made the blunders myself with watering too lots. It seems such as you're planting greens (cucumbers, beans, tomatoes)? merely shop attempting and don't provide up.
