Last week, I was doing military presses incorrectly. I brought the bar down to touch my chest (which was extended outward), rather than around my chin. The neck day, I awoke with neck pain. I thought I may have slept in a bad position, but the pain increased until I could not move my head w/o a lot of pain that day. It's gotten better since then, but I still have pain. It goes from the bottom of the skull on my left, down my neck to my clavicle. Was it really from the military press, and what can I do? I am going to a doctor, but that may be a week or two away.
In a military press the bar should come down below your chin but it's possible you could have pulled a muscle by doing the press in bad form or got off balance. Might be a pulled/strained trapezius muscle. A good medicine for this type of pain is Naxproxen by prescription or Aleve over the counter.
