On a 99 Ford F150, the ABS: light stays on. Is that anti-locking brake system or air bag system?
Brake system. Could be nothing more than a bad wheel sensor. Have the car scanned for further info.
WIll probably cost between 1500 to 2000 sounds like alot but it is cheaper than a new car Just take into consideration age, mileage,and if you plan to keep the car long enough to make it worthwhile
It would be best to source one from a recycler. Much less expensive and they typically come with a warranty. It is works fine for one day it will work fine for 1000 days. Considering the market value of the vehicle I think used is the way to go on this one. You can call a transmission shop and get a quote for the labor charges to change it over.
ABS stands for anti-lock brakes, If there were a problem with your air bag, a picture of an air bag, or a light that says SRS would come on. That said, you should definitely get that checked out. A problem with the braking system isn't something you want to let go.
A lit ABS warning light means there's an issue with the anti-lock portion of the braking system. You do however, still have a complete and useable braking system in the form of the standard hydraulic system. Cars for years didn't have ABS and they stopped just fine so while its something that should be taken care of it doesn't necessarily mean you can't drive the truck. The caution is that on slippery surfaces you'll have to be aware that you will have to do the same thing the ABS system does in an emergency stop, pulse the brakes using the pedal instead of just stomping down and letting the ABS pulse them for you. Get the codes read as soon as you can and replace the faulty part, sensor, or repair a bad wiring connection.
