what are the pros and cons of tanning beds?
Tanning beds are really worse on your skin than the sun. You have the ultraviolet rays so close. You may look good now, but later on you are going to be sorry when you have to go get skin cancers cut off and you look alot older than you really are. I am talking from experience. I wish I could go back in time I sure would change the Tanning part
No, YOU WILL damage your skin. Not you can. UV is a radiation that causes skin and other cancers. It also destroys the elastin in your skin which is why you see those 50 year old sun bathers that look like they are 90 with elephant skin. It is cumulative throughout your life. So what you hit your body with today will be added onto if you do it again in 5 years. The damage done is done, elastin doesn't get better.
I don't have any Pros, sorry, but some Cons: *You can still get skin cancer from them--it's still UV light, so it's no healthier than tanning in the sun. *You pay money for the increased possibility of skin cancer *They malfunction all the time--I don't know anyone who tans who doesn't have a story about a tanning session that went terribly wrong--I know 2 girls that had bulbs explode while they were tanning, leaving cuts and scars.
There really aren't any pros when it comes to tanning or tanning beds. You just get to tan in the winter which I guess to some is good. The cons definitely outweight the pros though. You age prematurely, possible skin cancer, and you burn your skin basically on a mild level constantly. NOT GOOD. Good luck!
Pros: You get your vitamin D that you wouldn't get from the sun in the winter. I'm not sure I agree with everyone elso who is saying you have a nice tan. If you're tan, and you live where I live this time of year, you look ridiculous. Cons: increased risk of skin cancer/other types of cancer, premature aging of your skin, sun burn, etc. If you're thinking of tanning, or you are going on a trip, please wear sunscreen. I know it sounds stupid to use sun screen in a tanning bed, but trust me. My mom used to tan all the time. She is 45, and looks 60.
