Question or opinion about rotating tires?

I am wondering what every ones thoughts are on rotating tires. I know that everyone has heard that you should rotate the tires on your car or truck every so often. I am of the opinion that this was only something made up by the tire companies to sell more tires. If you notice the back tires on a front wheel drive car hardly wear since they only roll without any torque being applied. If you did not rotate tires the back tires would last through two sets of new tires on the front. Therefore, I can not see buying 4 tires when you would only have to buy 2 if you did not rotate them as suggested. What is your opinion?

Answer:

Front tire is faster to worn then rear tire, by steering function. Even worst if often turning steering while car not move, and the car has miss wheel alignment. To maintain the car control, tire rotation is needed, by 4 tire rotation or 5 tires rotation. To have similar tire worn, do tire rotation every 10000 km and also do wheel alignment to that range. The rear tire is not receive torque on front wheel drive, but it got drag by front wheel and being loaded by car load. And it also will worn by load and friction on road, the rear tire even being move to side when the car turning without heading to the turn like front tire, this also take the rubber out. If you often to do tire pressure check, wheel alignment, smooth road, and tire treatment, the tire will survive much longer then you though even someday the tire will need to change by worn rubber compound base on 5 year after production or first use, which is last.
I rotate my tires every 6000 miles. It's not so much about which wheels are driven as it is about front end alignment. I've had my truck aligned before and a week later it's back in there again. Human error I guess. If you rotate your tires regularly, they will last longer. I see your point though. However, think of my situation for a minute. I drive a truck, my back tires are constantly driven, especially when I'm smokin' the tires. Now add to that the fact that the steering geometry is NEVER perfect. If I didn't rotate my tires, they would all be bald in short order.
rotating tires have a far greater impact than money. even tire wear is safer and the tires will last longer. as the fronts wear, so does the geometry of your suspension. front wheel drive has an inherent problem. they have to do all the work. braking, turning, acceleration, and support the majority of the vehicles weight. BTW, it's a fact, the tires will last longer, and in the end will save you money. your choice
