Recently when I push down on my car brakes there seems to be no resistance and I can push the brake all the way to the floor. When this happens it also feels like my car takes a very long time to stop and sometimes my car slides. I don‘t want to pay to take it to the shop if nothing is wrong. Do you think this warrants an inspection at the shop?
Check the brake fluid reservoir. Is it empty? (I'm sure it is.) You have a leak and air in the brake system. If this is the case your have sucked air into the master cylinder. Adding more brake fluid won't purge the air bubbles out and so won't fix the problem. You have to have the leak fixed and bench bleed the master cylinder and bleed the entire brake system. Air compresses but brake fluid does not. If there is any air in the brake system it will compress making your brakes mush or not even work. You have to get the air out and fix the leak. If by chance the reservoir is full it could be brake lining contamination or failure. There is also the rare possibility that the mastercylinder is leaking back up into the reservoir or that the drums have been damaged or are out of adjustment (old cars only). GET IT IN TO A MECHANIC ASAP!! I wouldn't even suggest driving it there; just have it towed.
Bikes without front brakes are mostly cruisers and yes they can go pretty fast but only as far as the nearest bar. (cheap-shot I know :), People get their adrenaline-rushes from many different things, some skydive, some bungie-jump, others surf big waves and they have right to do so. But riding a motorcycle on the public thoroughfares with a vehicle that has been altered mainly just for looks is endangering the rest of the public that supports the common good. That is why it is illegal to bungie-jump off skyscrapers and skydive over populated areas. As for myself on a motorcycle that's a whole different picture. I can get my adrenaline rush by going the speed limit (sometimes a LITTLE faster) and using NO brakes!
Dirt track bikes actually RACE at more than 60 mph on dirt tracks without front brakes. And. I would never try it, i must have a brake on the vehicle or similar i'm riding. 4 example i don't like 2 much the fact that skies dont have brakes but maybe its 2 much huh? Then its simple, sometimes i try not 2 use front brake when i drive my bike 4 2 reasons:1 gives u more adrenaline 2 the front one gets ****** up in 6 months of extreme braking like i do 8-D lol
You need new brake-pads - NOW! Get it done before you can't stop at all have an accident. It might be best to arrange for the garage to pick the car up rather than risk driving it round not being able to stop.
You definitely are low or out of brake fluid. check you brake fluid level and add and pump brakes till you feel some more resistance. You will need to get the air out of the lines too now which will involve 'bleeding' the lines. Determine where you are loosing fluidit may be as simple as tightening a bolt to stop the leak if you need to come to an emergency stop you can use your emergency brake but please dont try to drive like this. your just going to get yourself or someone else hurt. ;-)
