Removing teeth vs. Pallet Expanders? Braces Question?

Hi,I am in a quest to get braces. I have seen two different orthos so far. This first one I saw said that I needed to wear pallet expanders on my bottom and top teeth and springs for around 5 months. After this I was to get braces. The other ortho I saw said I needed to remove four teeth. One on each side. This was to make room for my teeth to move. I sucked my thumb for a very long time and this caused my mouth to become too narrow. It was explained to me that because I'm 16 that pallet expanders may not work because I'm done growing. I don't want to get braces twice and want to do it right the first time. Which option would you choose? Remove four teeth or get pallet expanders? Or do you have any advice for me?Any help is great. Thanks in advance, Sam

Answer:

i don't have a newborn with it yet i watch a sprint woman who had a cleft pallet. she purely had her surgical operation in jan. (whilst she grew to become a million) and its doing particularly nicely. If she did no longer have it she does not have been waiting to talk. She nevertheless does not communicate consistent with say yet she is getting so lots greater desirable than the place she grow to be in the previous asserting greater sounds that are commencing as much as sound greater like words. she has a thank you to pass and would desire to finally decide for speech scientific care yet as of now she is doing nicely. sturdy success to you and your new toddler.
My fiancee's daughter is three going to be 4 in April... she was born with a complete cleft pallet..has had two corrective operations, receives PT twice a week, Speech 5 days a week, walks, and can somewhat talk but has about 15 ledgible words.. She has a little bit of delay but due mostly to the hearing problems and the fact she spent her first year in the hospital due to other problems... oh and shes currently being processed for OT because she still mirrors with her hands which she should have stopped doing when she was one.
My daughter is 2 1/2 born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate..She was pretty much behind in everything..Sitting up, babbling, walking..She was in speech until we took her out for awhile because of her ears..She is having surgery on April 22nd to clean them and put new tubes in..Does your little one have tubes in at all? Has he had a lot of ear infections or fluid that is built up? I know the ears can cause a lot of problems with balance and speech..Have you tried genetic counseling? Are there any syndromes that they might be looking at that could be related to his delay? With Ella, I can understand some of what she says but she isn't even close to where she should be..I think I only understand her because I'm with her 24/7..My husband still asks me what she's trying to say..What has your cleft team said about what is going on? ~added~ The eustatian (sp?) tubes are usually affected..Short, mishaped..It can lead to problems with balance..Also, there is a problem with fluid that gets trapped in the ear..It would sound to them like they are underwater, or a cotton ball, soaked in vasoline stuffed in their little ears..My daughter's fell out and that's why we had to stop speech until they are replaced..You can tell when she has a lot of fluid in there or they are out..She gets clutsy, trips a lot, and her speech takes a turn for the worst..I guess I'm surprised your little one doesn't have tubes in..Most cleft kiddos do..Check with your team or an ENT..Hopefully this helps out a bit!
