Question:

Security door missing lock, can it be replaced?

The security door on my house is missing it's lock. What I mean is that there is a round hole on the outside of the door were the keyhole used to be. The inside keyhole is still there and I can still lock the door from inside. Is it possible to replace just this part and have it set to work with my house key?

Answer:

Should be possible just to go to device manager and uninstall it. Device Manager can be accessed from System in the Control Panel. (Classic View) More interestingly start it up in MSN and see if it works. Occasionally they are integrated into the monitor and they actually are hard to see but they work! teef_au
Americium (Am) is the only isotope used for smoke detectors. To appreciate how esy it is to shield understand its function. Am produces an alpha particle that is effectively the same structure as a helium (He)+2. It ionizes with darn near the first thing it comes into contact with. In the smoke detector with a rad source in it (actually should be called an alpha particle detector) you have place an alpha detector on one side of a cylander and on the other the source emits the radiation. The detector is calibrated to expect a certain threshold of detection and if smoke (denser partliculate in the air) enters the chamber the alpha particles ionize with the contaminant (smoke). Alpha particles, if left on your table top, would travel a few inches before they would ionize with something statistically. Never more than 6 inches. They are shielded by the dead layer of skin due to their large subatomic mass. Finally and this is the true hazard to this source. Do not get this stuff inside your body. Very little Americium can create a great deal of radiation dose to live tissue. If you held it in your hand the dead skin would get the dose which doesn't matter cause the skin is already dead. If you ingested the material your gut and intestines would get the dose. Do not overreact to that last paragraph, I do not know the dose projection but I doubt that it would be allowed to be commercially available if the Dose Equivilents were even marginal. Electrical models use a laser in place of the radioistope and I am certain laser smoke detectors, that can also be used for Carbon Monoxide, will be the only version available.
