Ok well I never paid for the ones I have now, they were passed on from one of my sons, It's all fabric,(can't upholster them myself). Their 7 years old,and he had a dog (male) that had fun scratching it up in different parts, and all the lower edges have stains (dog). when you sit on them you sink in, they give me a terrible rash when I sit on them. He told me that a long wood piece in the sofa was broken, but still I told him to give them to me. Now they are rather taking up space in my living room, since I don't use them cause of the rashes. And I'm rather confused of what to do. They are rather big and my apt is not sized for such big living room set.
I agree with 'ansmenam', if your sofa is broken it would probably be a good idea to buy new instead of trying to repair an old, broken one. If you'd like any ideas you should have a look these sofas - bit.ly/bExkHK - there are lots of designs from three collections (leather, fabric Italian), so i'm sure you'll find something you like. Buy new ones or perhaps buy slipcovers. Re upholstery will cost much more than the couches are worth!
It would best serve you to get rid of them. Mostlikely it would cost you more money to repair them and reupholster them than to buy new onew.
Generally you would reupholster if the furniture has good bones and is functional. Since the sofa is broken, I don't think it fits in the good bones category. If it is too large for your small apartment, I am also questioning its functionality. I think you shouldn't waste time and money reupholstering. I think its just time to call your son and ask him if he'd be so kind as to come pick up the sofa he dropped off.
