Question:

Should I preform?

I'm a ballet dancer, and we have an up coming show. I have to preform a section on my own. I'll be the only one on stage. I don't want to do it, what if I mess it up? There wil be about 500 people there, as it is a major show. I'm just so scared I'll mess up. Should I do it or not?

Answer:

Yes!! preform!! if you don't do it you will regret it and wish you did. Don't think about messing up so much and think about how much fun it will be doing what you love. Of course your going to get scared but if you practice it over and over again once you go for the real thing you will preform it the same way you did while practicing.
Do it! You won't get over your fear until you try it! Plus, if you mess up, you will be the only one to know, so just keep on going like you never did mess up! That's what I do! Most likely, no one will notice, but they will notice if you stop and try to fix it! Performing on stage is soooo much fun once you get over your nerves :)
One of the best things about performing as a soloist is that if you do happen to mess up than the only one who will know it is you and your choreographer. You can still make it look like it was on purpose to the audience. With that to calm your nerves it makes it easier to perform alone.
Okay, here's the thing: If you're scared you'll mess up, there's a good chance you will. Your nerves will get to you, and you'll be extremely nervous. And let's face it, for us dancers, the last thing you need is feeling nervous. It kind of stops us from fully performing well because the body is not feeling 100%. Breatheeeeeee. Relax! To get rid of your nerves, you have to truly believe and know that you'll do well. Don't let any negative thoughts into your mind before or while you're performing. Feel the music and do what you love: dancing :). Before you know it, you will be so into your section and dance, the nerves won't even be there. To make sure you won't mess up, practice your section A LOT. Practice, practice, practice until you have your solo part down COLD. Then, you'll know for sure you can do it! Don't worry about the crowd, they're just people. Most of the crowd will probably not be ballet dancers and if you DO make a small mistake, they won't even notice! Your solo is your time to shine! Don't sweat it. If you think you'll do great, you will! Let us know how you do! Good luck!
of course you should... well I think you should... but I'm not the one who has to do it. I'm in drama and no matter how scared i get I always find that after its over I feel so accomplished. I have messed up a lot in my time onstage. The key is to pretend that you didn't mess up. No one watching you will know you messed up unless you make a face or stop dancing. IF you happen to mess up make something up until you can get back to where you know what your doing. Just don't stop. YOU and the choreographer are going to be the ONLY ones who know you messed up. after the show people are going to compliment anything you did and if you chose to tell them you messed up i bet you they will say I didn't even notice.
