Question:

Should I still take my son outside?

We are in the mountains snowboarding and my 3yo son lost his jacket and gloves. I don't know the exact temp up here but it's usually in the 40s-50s here so that's what I'm guessing and it sure feels like it. When I took him outside to help him remember where he left his jacket/mittens he was shivering and his hands started going numb. Should I keep him inside the cabin until I find his jacket and mittens or should I still bring him outside and let him warm up by keeping him moving? I gave him my gloves and tied them around his wrists. He is also wearing a beanie, snowboard pants, a sweater, and snowboarding boots/socks. Can I take him outside and let him have fun with the rest of us? He's not going to freeze in 40s/50s weather right? Those temps feeling freezing to us doesn't mean he is actually going to freeze or be affected by it right? I mean people in colder parts of the world wear t-shirts in 15 degree weather! But his mother/my fiancee disagrees and wants to keep him inside.

Answer:

Rubber is probably the best. You want it to be water and hydrogen proof, but it does not have to deal with heat.
You can use winter tires 365 days a year if you want, although it is a total waste in summer. There is only a time restriction on STUDDED winter tires, which damage the roads in warm weather. 39:3-81 Use of Studded Tires: Use of studded tires approved between 14 November and 1 April or as determined by director.
