Question:

Should my next car have a manual transmission?

I need to decided between an automatic and a manual transmission for my new car. Ive ridden motercycles my whole life so i can shift. I would pick up shifting in a car in a heartbeat even though its slightly different than bikes so thats not a problem. Whats cooler for a young guy? Some girls ive asked say manual is like sexy and manly. Others say automatic because its easier to drive. Any advice?

Answer:

Manual transmission is definitely cooler and more fun. You get more control over the machine. However, manual transmission can be less enjoyable than an automatic if you spend a lot of time in city traffic or low speed stop and starts, as you end up shifting constantyl
They are both good for different reasons, but a manual transmission is funner to drive, because you have total control over the shifting. Auto is great if you don't like to do a lot while driving. But the thing to keep in mind with manuals, is that you have to get new clutch plates and other transmission parts replaced over time, whereas an automatic transmissions is almost maintenance free. Except for the transmissions flushes done every so many years. The filter in an automatic may also need to be replaced, but more and more vehicles use filters that can be cleaned through flushing, so you then don't have to have the filter changed. Manual transmissions are also better with gas mileage. So basically both are good, it's all up to you what you want to drive.
I prefer manual transmissions because I keep my cars a long time (current one is coming up on 300,000 miles) and auto transmissions cost a mint to repair when they fail and I have never seen an auto transmission that worked right after being rebuilt. Unless you abuse it a manual transmission will last almost indefinitely. A clutch job cost less than half of an auto transmission rebuild. Manual transmissions also allow for better fuel efficiency. Quite frankly I don't care which is cooler but the down side is that a manual transmission is a real pain in a traffic jam or heavy city traffic.
Test it out you might of done the perfect sweating job.
