Question:

Smoke detectors won't stop chirping!! Help!?

While preparing dinner tonight the smoke detectors went off. (no fire just, smoke from a pan in the oven) Fanning them would not make them go off. Finally we pushed the Push to Hush button and they stopped. But, they still chirp. We have tried removing the back up battery, we can't find a reset button and push to test doen't make it stop. The chirping has gone on for 2.5 hours. We will never be able to sleep this way. Does anyone have a solution?

Answer:

You might have to let him get over his fear by himself. He might get better and get used to it after a while. It takes time to conquer a fear, especially for a dog. But you can comfort him, or pet him. I think he'll have to conquer his fear by himselff.
UmmIm really not sure. Keep doing what you're doing, try giving him some treats or something.
Try to distract your dog by doing something else. Don't be freaking out because it will amplify the dog's fear
Call the fire department and then get out! You're apparently not smart enough to fight the fire, as you've gone to the computer to chat while your house in ON FIRE!
There isn't really much. I have a few suggestions, though. 1) Does he have a safe place? If so, put him there and sing a lullaby to him. ( It works for my dogs! ) 2)Maybe after it goes off, you can offer him treats and pet him. I don't suggest this because if there ever happens to be a fire, then he will not treat it seriously and instead ask for treats. 3) Do the Smokey bear procedure! Leash him and lead him out of the house. It might be useful because if there is ever a real fire, he will know what to do. The downside is that every time the detectors go off, he will bolt to the door. 4) Last but not least, ignore him. If you make a huge fuss, he will learn that highe shrieky soundpetting and love. Good luck! (Email me if these don't work.)
