I have a 1994 Geo Tracker (2dr) Love my car but the steering wheel is huge and i have to make large turns just to make a simple left or right. It‘s not hard to turn the wheel, very smooth, but i wondered if maybe installing a smaller steering wheel would mean i have to turn less times? Thank you.
Your mechanic seems to be guessing, I'd try and get a second opinion.

If the rim has been bent, there could be so lots greater harm then you definately anticipate. you will would desire to get an alignment. A smaller steering wheel will still have to turn as many times as the larger one. The distance you'll have to move your hands will be less on the smaller wheel (and will require more effort), but it will require the same number of actual turns lock-to-lock as the larger wheel. You can test the difference a smaller diameter steering wheel would make by simply holding your hands closer to the center of the larger wheel when turning it. The number of steering wheel turns lock-to-lock is a product of the gear ratio of the steering box, not the size of the steering wheel unfortunately.
