Question:

Tire size HELP PLEASE!?

i was wondering cause i wanted to get new tires and my tire size is 265/75/15 that is what it is right now and i was wanting to know if could i fit 4 new tires 235/75/15 on that rim would that make any problems?

Answer:

The tire will fit but it will give your truck problems. Let me break tire sizes down for you. The first three numbers are the width of the tire in millimeters, so in this case 265mm or 235 mm. The second number is an aspect ratio of the tires width and the rim diameter in this case 75 this will tell how tall a tire is or the overall diameter of the tire. The third number is the rim size or diameter. So while a 235/75/15 will replace a 265/75/15 it will be smaller and this will cause the speedometer to read incorrectly, the truck to burn more gas to go the same distance and the tires to wear out quicker. The cost may be cheaper now but when you factor in the cost of the extra gas, Buying tires sooner than expected in the future and the unforeseen traffic tickets You will actually save money by buying the right tires now.
They will fit but why would you do that? It will throw of your speedometer. You will be going slower that what the speedo says!
there should not be a problem because your going to a smaller diameter tire you will get more turning ratio but that you might have to recalibrate the speedometer
The tire will be a little more than 1.5" in diameter smaller, throwing off your speed indicated (meaning you will be going slower than the speedometer i.e. 3-5 mph @60) and using more fuel to get there. But perhaps more important the load capacity of the smaller tire is about 275 pounds less for EACH tire, meaning 1,000 pounds less gross vehicle weight capacity. It could mean it would not be safe for hauling much of anything. be smart, be safe.
