Question:

Volvo Penta AQ140A leaking heat exchanger filter cap. Replaced impeller now its leaking, help?

I have tried to tighten the seal up by knockin in the tabs but under around 4500 revs after idle it spits water from the cap. Is it just doing it because the impeller is pumping water alot more pressure? I have tried flipping the cap and tapping the tabs to tighten seal. It has slowed it a little but not much. Help???!!! I want to take my boat away for new years!!

Answer:

Replace the cap and when U replaced the impeller did U find all the pieces that broke off the impeller.Look for them as it will block the exchanger cooling holes and cause Temperature to rise pressure to build.
It sounds like the seal in the cap needs to be replaced. If not then you have something plugging the system causing it to build up too much pressure.
rent a boat for the new years, if you can not get a new filler cap and remove the obstruction(s) in the waterways. Why risk a damaged engine for one outing!
