What all is checked for a California brake and lamp inspection?

I know that it is more than just lights, and brakes. please try and be specific. Any one out there have one done? My car is old and alot of things need to be replaced.

By the time you spend all that money on a turbo, and voiding your warranty, why not just get a Mazdaspeed 3?
Brakes. Inspect the whole brake system such as pads, rotors, drums, calipher, master cylinder, piping and tubing, etc. Then test drive to make sure the car stops when it is supposed to. Lamps. Make sure that your headlights (low and high beams), directional signal lights (front and rear), stop lights, parking lights, backing up lights and license plate light among others work. If your car is before a certain year, it may not be subject to smog control.
