Question:

What are some iron-rich foods?

I‘m a vegetarian and I don‘t think I‘m getting enough. what are some foods with iron?

Answer:

Did you know that iron from plant source and iron from from animal source are very different. We have two kinds of dietary iron. Heme iron - Iron which comes from animal products and it is more easily absorbed by the body than non-heme iron. Non-heme iron - iron which comes from plant source and it is not easily absorbed if vitamin C is insufficient. Did you know that potato contains more Iron than spinach? DV or the daily value of Iron is 18mg a day. mg/100g Potato(boiled with skin) - 6.1mg (34% DV) Spinach(boiled, drained) - 3.6mg (20% DV) But potato is loaded with calories and spinach has more nutrients than potato. There are many food that have more iron/100g than spinach and potato. But most of them are spices and they are not consumed in large amount and most of the are dried mg/100g Parsley(freeze-dried) - 53.9mg (299% DV) Spirulina(dried) - 28.5mg (158% DV) Dried agar(Gelatin substitute) - 21.4mg (119% DV) Chives(freeze-dried) - 20mg (111% DV) Here are some of vegetarian food rich in iron. mg/100g Tofu - 1.6mg (9% DV)) Kidney beans - 2.2mg (12mg DV) Kanpyo(gourd) - 5.1mg (28% DV) Sun-dried Tomatoes - 4.9mg (27% DV) Citrus fruits can help absorption of iron from plant source because they are high in vitamin C.
Green veggies, whole grains, beans, nuts, seed. It's also important to eat vitamin C, as it helps your body absorb the iron. If your iron is low avoid black tea (and red white, though you don't sound old enough for wine) as the tannins in both block iron absorbtion.
How old is it? Maybe the battery needs to be replaced.
Broccoli,Spinach ,Turnip Greens,Mustard Greens.Colored Greens and actually all green leafy Vegetables.I know because i cant eat to much of them, because my iron level stays to high as it is.
