Question:

what axle is in the 1983 jeep cj5?

im looking for a axle that has a wider width than the axle that is in a 1974 jeep cj5.

Answer:

Both.but you don't burn more gas.you just burn the same amount of gas more efficiently.
Both but not by much, They can boost your gas mileage by enabling your car to breath better, and boost your horsepower by enabling it to breath deeper when you slam on the gas.
will increase your hp by about 5-25 based on quality of intake (AEM is best), and your torque by about 6-12. But the mpg is based on how hard you drive the car. I drive my thunderbird the same, and I noticed a 3 mpg increase, but my buddy wants to show off his new found power, and actually loses fuel economy because of it. Basically, don't make quick starts and you'll be fine. Also if you're thinking of getting one buy an air bypass to prevent hydrolock.
1984 CJ7 wide track axles. front would be a dana 30 and the rear is an AMC 20. get a set from the same vehicle so that you don't have to play with the gears. yoke might be a little different but should be easy to mod. disc brakes on the front will be an added bonus to the swap. good luck!
