What is the deal with spoiler wings on the back of cars? Does it lift the car, making it lighter and thus faster, does it press the car downward, improving traction, does it simply improve aerodynamics making the car a little sleeker, or is it just there to look cool?
It reduces drag so the car burns less fuel. Two sports cars identical make and model on the same road a mile apart both going 55 mph only one has a spoiler and the other has had the spoiler removed. The one without the spoiler will be hitting the gas peddle a heck of a lot more as there is greater resistance from the air causing the car to use more power to get through it.
