Question:

What does this phrase ON TWO TIRES mean?

[I‘ve read a novel which tells: i.e. the writer had accidentally dropped an important document in a trash can.] .I raced out the door, jumped into my small station wagon and peeled out of the driveway. I had absolutely no idea where to start looking for the garbage man. But when I crested the hill, suddenly, out of corner of my eye, I glimpsed a garbage truck heading onto a dead-end street. O n t w o t i r e s, I turned the corner, intent on running down that garbage truck. I screeched to a halt in the middle of the street, blocking all traffic, and leapt from my car, flagging my arms wildly at the approaching garbage truck. [Please clarify it to me. Thank you.]

Answer:

Took a corner so fast that your car lifted two tires on one side of the car off the ground. In other words took the corner too fast.
On two tires' suggests that the driver took the turn at such a high rate of speed that the vehicle almost tippede over sideways, but was able to keep two tires on the road while the other two were off the ground.
