If you want to turn your MacBook into an alarm clock you can do so with a freeware application called Aurora, which has actually come very much in handy for me a couple of times when I was on vacation, had my MacBook, and had lost my cell phone. You can also set iCal to trigger an alarm when a certain event approaches. For instance, if you have a dentist appointment at 2:30 pm, you can have iCal alert you at 2:00 pm. But it won't wake you up in the morning or anything like Aurora will.
