I am an archer and a beginning hunter and im wanting to purchase a compound bow. But there are so many factors in finding out which bow is right for me! So, i want to understand what some of the factors are.One of them i hear alot of people talking about is the axle to axle. What is this? Also, how do you aim with a compound bow? Im used to a bow with no pins or peep sights.
It is the length of the bow when measured from the center (axle) of one pulley to the center (axle) of the other pulley. And to aim with a compound bow you use a sight pin, or sight pins that are set at different distances. And most archers use a peep sight located on the string of the bow to center the specific sight pin in that they wish to use. The key to accuracy is to know what distance you are shooting so that you may use the particular sight pin that is set for that distance. There are some, just a few that shoots a compound bow instinctively and do not use sight pins at all. Go with the method that suits you the best. But bear in mind that if you shoot instinctively it will require much more practice then using the pin system. Good luck!
axle to axle is the length of the bow from the center of one pulley axle to the other pulley's center. a compound bow uses a peep sight in the string, you basically line up the ring with the aiming pin that's sighted for the range your shootingat(some people have a rainbow of colors on they're sights to indicate which pin is for which range, some can have as many as 7 pins with different colors sighted for different ranges)
Axles are not the pulleys. That's like saying the wheels on your car connect inside the differential. The axles are the, well axles, that the pulleys sit on. Axle to axle is the measurement between them.
