In America, call the fire dept. They regulate such alarms and test them regularly for safety. Never withhold rent money. It disappoints the manager and makes you look silly. In 3rd world countries, be happy you have electricity a few days a week.
Forget using a regular Quest comp fitting. Try Sharkbites, great for PEX. Home Depots carry them and most plumbing supply houses.
