Hey Alex! This is a controversy between metalheads because, we are always saying that nu metal or glam metal is more tougher than the other. Im going with nu metal because, it is annoying when you find 40-50 year olds thinking that glam metal is still at its height blasting Ratt or Quiet Riot. Im not against glam or nu metal, just that what really bugs me is that supposebly glam metal is about being macho when actually they put makeup, which is not manly. Even though nu metal does have rap influences, they actually have more grooviness, the guitars sound more metal, but still they lack solos, just like you mentioned, something that glam metal has, and also one of the few things I like about glam metal. In nu metal they go aggressive and even though there are djs in nu metal, some how they do give some aggression to the genre. Their lyrics are have more angst than the usual glam metal lyrics that talk about girls and partying, which reminds me of todays downfall of hip hop and rap music. If you listen to nu metal, sometimes, and I mean sometimes, they have lyrics that do make sense. Glam metal does that every once and a while too when making love ballads. Whats my answer? I think nu metal is more real than glam metal, see the differences and youll understand that. THANK YOU FOR READING MY ANSWER ALEX! HAVE A GOOD SUNDAY!
Just because you don't like it don't mean it's fake, I don't like them either but they are most definitely real, just shitty sub genres.
Coal Chamber is nu-metal and has no turn-tables or rapping. Glam Metal are old school metal boys that used looks to sell. Nu-Metal is much like Symphonic Metal or Industrial Metal, not in the sound, but in the fact that it was meant to mix metal with other forms of music.
Glam metal, most definitely. Nu-metal started off as an experiment with bending the rules of metal and integrating elements of hip hop and other genres, while glam metal was pretty much just invented as a radio-friendly version of true metal from the start. In other words, nu-metal wasn't originally invented to be commercially viable, while glam metal was.
