Question:

What should I do? A tow truck company driver put power steering fluid where the brake fluid goes ?

I ended up hitting a car after my brakes gave out on me. (Close to Close towing company) Will the whole brake system have to be replaced? 1999 Ford taurus 6cyl abs brakes dual .

Answer:

well really you didnt have brakes to start with so that is a problem to start and no it wouldnt hurt it any more with anything put in it you just have to have system fix but replace the whole thing no dont need it
Power steering and brake fulid is both Hydraulic fluid and can be used as a substitute if one is not readily available. Its a quick fix, and didn't cause your brakes to fail. Something else was wrong that made your brakes leak out the fluid in the first place, the tow guy just wanted to get you on your way and is not at fault.
There is a big problem here NO fluid can be put in the brake system except DOT 3-4 people telling you you can use power steering fluid are 100% wrong brake fluid has a very high boiling point and is extremely stable, power steering fluid will ruin your system and deteriorate your seals. You will need to replace your master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake calipers, your abs HCU unit, the rubber brake lines, and have the system completely flushed. I would go to a dealer have everything documented and a price quoted, get in touch with the tow company and if you say you hit another car contact the police in the town that the accident happened and let them know you would like it noted about the improper fluid was put in by that company, then contact a lawyer
