Question:

What suspension system will provide a smoother ride on a 2005 Honda Civic DX?

It has 35,000 miles, the original suspension system doesn‘t need replacing, but would like to have a smoother ride, so considering an upgrade. Thanks!

Answer:

Change your wheel and tyre combination. Use a smaller diameter wheel with a larger profile tyre. Keeps the same rolling radius, but make sure they clear the braking components.
i would suggest a different tire then going to suspension extremes. try going into different set up. i would suggest looking into a bf Goodrich or Michelin tire with a low rolling resistance. however a shock with adjustable rebound will help but will give you more bounce and most of the time are designed for a sport set up with a short throw for a lowered vehicle.
One thing you can try is to use a smaller rim/larger tire combination, just make sure that the overall diameter is the same as stock. Using a small rim/large tire means that the tire will have a larger sidewall, which is used by the tires to absorb bumps, so they will have a slightly softer ride. Also you should look into different brands and types of shock absorbers as well as variable rate springs. Shocks with a slower rate of compression and rebound will give a softer ride, and variable rate springs will self adjust to the load in the car. hope this helps.
