Question:

What type of transmission fluid should i use?

I have a 1994 Chevrolet cavalier z24. I‘m going to change the transmission fluid in it and wanted to know if i should use synthetic or regular transmission fluid. I know you don‘t use synthetic engine oil on a car that old with 187000 miles on it but i haven‘t herd if it would be good or bad for the transmission. Synthetic or not. what brand would be the best for a car with that many miles on it?

Use Dextron II transmission fluid in it or Dextron IIE don't try to use anything else you will regret it if you do. Transmission fluids are manufacturer/transmission specific specific. If you use the wrong type or kind you could ruin the transmission permanently especially and older transmission like yours. Look in your owners manual or on the dipstick, or call a local GM shop to know for sure.
The owners manual could be years outa date. Call at least two Chevy dealers' service depts and ask, have your VIN handy.
