Question:

Whats the best car alarm?

I‘m about to buy my first car and I‘m dead set on a civic. 98-00 and sinced its the most stolen car in the states. I plan to modify it so I need the best alarm system so I don‘t get jacked. Now a Guy on Craigslist has alarms (viper) that are refurbished and idk if I‘m getting a good deal. He wants 280 for alarm and remote start and installation. How much is it new and is this a good deal or bad?

Answer:

well i think that one of those answers was right for that amount of money you get a short ram not a cold air. the short ram will give you worse mileage due to it pulling hot air off the motor. a true cold air may help a little, but it will give you more power. which if you are like most of us means you will punch it more often which will give you worse mileage. i think your best bet is to change your stock air filter every 10K miles or so (the cleaner it is the better air will flow) $5-$10 at autozone. good tires, the right inflation a good alignment will make the most difference in your mileage.
For that price you are getting a short ram intake, not a true cold air intake, you will get 2-3 more HP and your gas mileage isn't going to change true cold air intakes cosat about 150 and give you 10-15 more HP, and will increase your mileage. this is because cold air compresses more, giving you more bang for your buck
I have to say a smith and Wesson. A good thief can get around most alarms easily.
I would go with a viper I think with a kill switch on it so jus in case ur car is stolen you can kill all the power to it and they also come wit a locater but that will set you back a few $$
a good thief if he wants the car bad enough they will take it. alarms don't bother them. but viper is a good product
