Question:

Wheel alignment on older car?

I need to have the wheels aligned in my 86 Bronco II. The car consistently pulls to the right. Its more annoying than dangerous. I've heard from numerous places that it would cost around $80 for a general alignment for 4 wheels, but that was for newer cars. What will the cost be for mine?

Answer:

There is typically a difference price for rear wheel drive vehicles and front wheel drive vehicles. The price difference is due to the rear end of a front wheel drive being adjustable. Your vehicle is rear wheel drive and the recommended alignment is called a thrust alignment. The $80 price is within reason. The only thing I would warn you about is the fact that to make adjustments to your vehicle for camber and caster requires a shim. There is typically an extra charge for both the part and labor on these shims. Wherever you end up taking it be sure to ask them what the cost will be if it requires shims on both sides. Hope this helps.
Mine costed about 120 with taxes, I had a 1993 Nissan sentra
Well, the alignment will be about that, but your drag link is probably shot. You may need new joints in it or the bar replaced completely. That will be added cost. It cannot be aligned if the drag link is bad. If the alignment is really off, shaking is usually the result, not an insistent pulling. That would indicate other problems, such as the drag link.
