Is there a certain temperature when you should have a blanket on?We live in Va, if that helps.
it depends on the horse and how thick of a coat it getsIf your horse has a nice winter coat you dont need to worry if its moderate to little coat then think about keeping a blanket on when its below freezing, especially if its in the low 20s or colder, keep in mind how heavey the blanket is as well, we keep medium weight blankets on our horses all day once it starts staying below 25 all day, before then just at nightone has a thick coat the other has almost no coat.

I've hauled fuel on the ice roads in Nunavut where the temps would get to -60 CelsiusWe usually dumped a gallon of methanol in the tanks every time we filled upGuys who didn't do this usually got stranded half way across a lakeProblem with running in the U.Sis that you can fuel in the south where it is warm and travel north where it is cold and the fuel that was fine in the south will jell up northAdd some methanol to the tanks and hope for the best.
