I am doing a project and I need to know when Quartz was discovered (the year) and who discovered it (their name)I can't find the answer ANYWHERE: the internet, books, people, so do you know?

No. Both opal and quartz are forms of silica. Silica has the formula SiO2, and occurs in many forms. Silica with large crystals is termed quartz: rock crystal, amethyst, smoky quartz are all examples of different colours of quartz. Flint (a type of chert) is microcrystalline silica: it has crystals, but they're microscopic. Opal is non-crystalline silica, with quite a bit of water in it. It has no crystal structure, like glass or obsidian.
