Question:

Why cant i get the front axle off my YZ?

i tried to take the axle off my YZ, heres what i did, which didnt work.removed the 4 bolts (2 on each stanchion) then removed the nut holding in the axle. I thought it should just pull through at that point, but was mistaken. Can someone please tell ,me what i did wrong and how to correctly do it?

Answer:

Not 100% sure sounds like a bent axle. It could be that the axle is binding against wheel bearings in the wheel. Drive it out slowly with a 3/8/s ratchet EXTENSION and hammer. Take your time with it.
Chances are there's some grime in with the grease from riding causing it not to pull out easily. Spin the nut back on the end of the axle but only about three quarters of the way on. You want the nut to hang off the axle a thread or two. Whack the nut with a hammer and see if it loosens up, if not whack it again. Once the nut hits the fork , remove the nut and use a ratchet extension to continue to drive the axle through. You don't want to hit the end of the axle with the hammer with out the nut or extension in place or you will mushroom your threads and cause more problems for yourself.
The center bearing spacer is rusted to the axle. Remove the bearing shield on the threaded side of the axle. Lay wheel down with that side Up. Fill up the hub with penetrating oil or Diesel by pouring it Thru the bearing. Let it sit at least a day. Then beat the hell outa it with a big hammer. Either of 3 things happens, 1)Nothing 2)Axle slides thru spacer like it's Supposed to 3) Spacer Does Not release from axle,,,and drives the far-side bearing out of the hub,,,,all stuck togetherAxle,Spacer,1 Bearing . The Force Free way to get it out Remove the bearing shields on each bearing,, Cut the Ball Retainer and remove it from each brng. Remove the balls--push them all together they'll fall out. The axle will then fall thru the hub. Soak it in penetrant or diesel,,,,and beat on the spacer to beak up the corrosion. Grease it Well or use Anti-Seize upon re-assembly
