Question:

Why would I use an HDMI cable for PC data backup to an external hard drive?

I'm considering purchasing a WD external HD to back up my computers. Amazon offers a deal on the hard drive and a HDMI Cable 2M (6 Feet) for $2.39*. So I'm reading reviews regarding this cable, and frankly I can't find anything about data transfer/backup for PCs. All I see is how fabulous this cable works for HDTV--something I haven't tested the waters for yet! Please let me know what the deal is if any. Thanks!*cable price not WD HD!

Answer:

Okay for one HDMI had NOTHING to do with transfer rate Its basically a cable to hook your computer up with your HDTV (if your T.V. has an HDMI port) which mostly all of them comes with today So buying it I guess would be benificial if your looking for a bigger monitor xD but other than that its useless and don't worry about it and the 2 dudes on top have absolutly no idea wtf their talking about.
PC's only have HDMI out at the moment in order to prevent piracy, that cable will not work with an external HD at all.
the hard drive is better
If you have a HDTV and a device that has HDMI output, then it would be a good deal for you. However, if you don't have a HDTV or any device with HDMI-input, it pretty much useless to you. The HDMI cable cannot be used with your hard drive. HDMI cables are only for transmitting high definition audio and video.
You wouldn't. Although they are bundling the two items together, they would never be used as a set. HDMI cables are used exclusively for carrying video and audio signals. That is the only thing you can do with them. This is a deal for people who are buying a hard drive and just happen need an HDMI cable for some other purpose. One of the quirks of Amazon is that it sometimes automatically creates odd deals like this.
