Question:

Yarn to make bath/dish rags and loofahs? (Crochetting)?

I have been crocheting loofah's and bath rags out of cotton yarn latelyI know that cotton is the best choice but cotton can get kinda spendy after a whilei was wondering how durable a yarn like Red Heart Super Saver is? Is it durable enough to use for things like this?

Answer:

NoYou need to use cotton, or linen, or another plant fibreSynthetics are not a good choice (acrylics or polyesters)Wool doesn't work that well eitherCotton is a good choice, but you need a yarn that has a good hard twist to itIf the twist is soft, it feels nice, but will wear out very fastYou also need something that is strong and will give a good scrubbingLinen is a good choice for this, since it lasts almost forever, and will not mildew like some other fibresBut any quality fibre is going to cost you a bit moreLinen is more expensive than cotton, yes, but it lasts much longerIt is really good for a loofahIf you make things cheaply, they look it, and will not lastDisappointing all roundUse good quality materials if you are going to spend time making anything, and you will be much happierIf you give them away, or sell them, those people will also appreciate these things when they are made wellDon't be cheap!
You might be able to enlarge your pattern piece by wrapping it in sheet waxYou can get it in many thicknesses and with a sticky side.
