Question:

Bleeding brakes?

I replaced my rotors and my front calipers, then I had no pressure.(brakes) So then I bled them and bled them some more. Still nothing. So then I replaced the master cylinder. Then bled them and bled them and bled them. Still no brakes. What am I doing wrong. I have gone thru 3 bottles of DOT4. Please help.Chad

Answer:

Start at the top and go down. Master cylinder first then front brakes then rear. Remember to close the bleeder valve before it stops squirting or you will suck in air. Also remember to ALWAYS pump your pedal after any brake work while the car is off to close the gap you created when you took them apart.
Standard brakes, (not anti lock), start to bleed at the farthest point from the master cylinder, that is, rr, then lr, then rf then lf. If power brakes, do not use power, bleed with engine off. On normal anti lock, start at the lf, then rf, then lr then rr, again, do this with engine off. If after you installed the new calipers, and no pedal, make sure you have the right combination of pads and calipers, also check thickness of rotors. All have to be close to factory specifications or no pedal. If you have no pedal, there is a good chance some wrong parts are involved.
Are you letting the Air out and closing the Valve properly? DO IT SLOWLY Open valve Push peddle to floor slowly close valve release slowly Repeat Unless its a clutch. Thats another story
you need to gravity bleed your brakes first, fill the reservoir and open the bleed screws and let the fluid flow in to a clear bottle, start with the farthest wheel from the master cylinder,,and go from there with it,its going to take a while now to get brakes back on it ,if you have anti lock brakes its not a very fast procedure to do,one wheel at a time, start from the back and come forward with it,then you,ll get brakes back on it,don't pump them, not anti lock brakes, gravity bleed them, you ,may also need help with doing this, good luck with it.,,PS and don't let the Master cylinder ever go dry while your doing this, then you have to start all over if you do,good luck.
