Question:

Brake system problem could it be the master cylinder?

okay so I had my car sitting for 2 months at the mechanic due to engine head problem that was fixed after he gave me back the car I noticed the brakes are gone. meaning I have to press hardly all the way to the floor with all my power to try to stop the car some times I use the handbrake that‘s how bad it is.the brake pads were new from beforethe brake fluid is on Max. Please Help! What should I check for?

Answer:

your son was wrong to steal, and all businesses have a fire door that unlocks from the inside. there is no reason to believe he was locked in
try bleeding the brake lines.there is probably air in them.
you don,t need to bleed the brakes if you did not replace anything like a caliper, wheel cylinder, a line or hose ! but it does sound like the master cylinder ! before you change the master cylinder bench bleed it then bleed all 4 wheels after you install the new master cylinder !
If the car is like 5 yrs old or older and the car sat for 2 months waiting on repairs, then it is plausible that the seals did leak out fluid and let air in. You could try bleeding the brakes and see if that helps. However, it could be that the seals in the master cylinder have worn due to non use and the master cylinder will have to be replaced.
