Question:

Can I install memory card reader on Win98SE?

I would like to install external card reader in my old comp, but don't know would Win98 Se accept it. Comp mentioned have USB 2.0 and Win98 Se support it (I use it for printer/scanner, attaching digital camera directly and so on), but card reader I wanted to buy doesn't have Win98 Se listed in supported OS. Oldest listed is Win MEsomeone told me that I can still install this card reader, even win98 Se is not listed, and it should be recognized anyway, if my OS already supports USB 2.0. (as I said, it does). Same person said, in worse case, I would maybe need to find drivers on net and install them manually, instead automatic recognitionbut is that correct? Will my Win98SE recognize a card driver? Any opinion?

Answer:

After putting the USB device, Windows 98 will ask you for a driver. Then use the download from this site as the driver : technical-assistance .uk/kb Windows 98 doesn't naturally support USB Mass Storage and card readers, but this driver will allow it.
Find a reader that lists 98SE (there are some - they have the drivers on the CD that comes with it). ME is an upgrade of 98SE, but there are some differences.
