Question:

Can Iron Ore Be Dissolved by Water?

Okay, so I‘m doing a project on the Edmund Fitzgerald, and I was wondering if unprocessed Iron Ore can be dissolved by water. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Answer:

No the iron ore is already oxidized in the form of hematite. There is always minor dissolution over time but insignificent in the time lines of the EF.
Pretty certain that iron ore can't be dissolved by water.
