Question:

Car shaking when braking?

I have a 05 altima that shakes when brakingi just replaced the brake pads and rotors with premium wagner rotors and pads and it still shakes? Any idea what it could be?Thanks in advance!

Answer:

New rotors? Soinds like they are warped OR struts are bad.
If you got grease or other contaminant on the pads or rotor faces during the assembly, this could account for it, but not likely. If you need shocks or other suspension work, this could do it -- stand at the front corner of the car, and push the fender down forcefully, and then release. If it goes up once and stabilizes, shocks are fine, if it goes up then back down then back up, shocks are worn badly. Jack up one corner till the front tire is off the ground, then try shaking the wheel side to side at the front of the tire, then at the bottom. If it moves out of alignment, you have worn wheel bearings or badly worn tie rod ends. Whatever it is, you must find and correct it, because it's a danger to you and to others as it now is.
Maybe your anti-lock brake system is not working right. You could try disabling it to see if the shaking stops. Possibly by pulling the fuse. Might give you a quick way to test out the idea. Is the steering wheel shaking? If so it does sound like the rotors are warped. Even if they are new.
