For one, it depends on the material. Latex gloves often work, but ya gotta be careful that your material doesn't react with the gloves! Also, probably the BEST way is to be careful and not even let it get on your hands. Here is a good site! chem.duke.edu/safety/glove.ht
I think telekinesis. It would confuse and maybe scare people. Or the power for your mind to turn a bit of oxygen that is going into your brain into a lot of oxygen and so you could hold your breath for a LOOOOOOONG time and could breathe underwater. :)
