Question:

GMC sierra cold air intake? ?

I am planning on putting a cold air intake, new headers and a new exhaust system on my truck. It is a 05 gmc sierra, 5.3 vortec v8 z71 4wd, extended cab short bed. is there any reason I would need to change what kind of gas I use, I use normal 87, and is there anything else I need to do after I install these things? Any kind of tuneing or am additional part? Please give examples of good parts if you know themTHANK YOU

Answer:

you will be fine to put that on your truck. i infact did on my 5.7 the regular gas will be fine, enjoy your improved performance.
based on the mods. you mention , absolutely no need to not use 87but 89 will give you an additional smoother engine in my opinion if you want to maximize the changes you may want to run a power programmer. i purchased a Hypetech programmer from Summit racing for under 200 for an 07 GMC, shop around as some of these can run up to $500
I've got an old 97 with the same set-up I used a kn cold air intake. You can use the same gas, no tuning modifications. If you do put the headers on you may have to. But I see no sense in the headers unless you are doing pulling competitions. The bring nothing to the performance that standard exhaust don't already do. You would be better off just putting larger exhaust pipes on it. But that is just personal opinion. Have fun.
